Adventist School Damaged by Tornado Print E-mail

An F1 Tornado hit Allegheny East’s George E. Peters Seventh-day Adventist School in Chillum, Md., Sunday afternoon destroying part of the gym and roof and overturning a trailer. The school shares a campus with the conference’s Metropolitan church and Chillum Oaks Apartments, a senior housing complex. Though there were people at both of these locations for events, no one was hurt.

Lee, senior vice president and chief financial officer of Adventist HealthCare in Rockville, Md., has been named as a Director of the HealthCare Financial Management Association (HFMA) board. HFMA is a national organization that focuses on improving the financial management and business performance of health-care related organizations.

Recently 11 Pathfinder clubs from the Chesapeake, Mountain View, Ohio, and Pennsylvania conferences participated in the Columbia Union Pathfinder Bible Achievement. This year’s event was hosted by the Chesapeake Conference and was held in the Highland View Academy chapel in Hagerstown, Md.

Adventists among survivors of Congo plane crash Print E-mail
A Seventh-day Adventist missionary family survived a plane crash yesterday, emerging from the wreckage just moments before it exploded.

Barry and Marybeth Mosier of Dodge Center, Minnesota, and two of their young children were aboard a DC-9 passenger jet headed for Kisangani, where their eldest son, Keith, 24, leads the Congo Frontline Missions.

Linking poverty to economically fettered women, world faith, aid agency and government representatives said April 13 that it's no coincidence an estimated 70 percent of the 1.2 billion people who subsist on just US$1 a day are women and girls.

Reversing such troubling statistics is a "moral imperative," leaders gathered at a packed National Cathedral for the Women, Faith and Development Summit to End Global Poverty agreed.

Dominican Republic: President donates land to Adventists Print E-mail
The Dominican Republic national leader donated 31 acres of public land -- already used by Seventh-day Adventist young people for annual retreats -- to the church last month. During the March 28 donation ceremony, he applauded the church's work and image in the country.
